2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Developer to Boost Troubled Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

The renowned publisher has appointed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Comes After Poor Response

The new appointee takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last autumn.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this decision through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a clearer vision.

The president noted that the team is now overhauling the project with a renewed vision, aiming to address player expectations.

Trend of Strategic Hires

The news mirrors a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the full message from Ismailer's announcement:

Hello Everyone—

I understand you all just completed your gathering - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and talented creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to endure.”

Given your hard work and adaptability, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last fall’s the game playtest was revealing. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the need for a more distinct brand.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the input to consideration and reimagined Project ETHOS with a revitalized vision - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our players.

The belief in this project increases every day. To boost the incredible advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce the new hire as the new Lead of 31st Union. After several months of talks, he starts with us on next week.

Ben’s leadership and experience in the PVP shooter space is vast, having devoted the recent years developing and managing some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, including the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in welcoming him next week. We are all looking forward to keep observing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to ahead.

David
