Followers Call for Custody of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the pop star are calling for that a man who leaped a fence and grabbed the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared footage reveals the Australian man bypassing media personnel and lunging at Grande while the cast walked down a yellow carpet accompanied by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being led away of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being detained", though court documents showed that he was scheduled to attend court on the following morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
Pattern of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram feed features recordings of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney show in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the area last December.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," commented an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user wrote.
Fans Show Disapproval Over Grande's Past Trauma
Many fans accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" wrote a further comment on Instagram.
Several fans also questioned guards at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while others requested social media platforms to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Event Details
In footage spreading on the internet, Grande appeared shocked when she was approached by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted comforting her while Mr Wen was led out by guards.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of attendees had congregated in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore mall, including several who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The motion picture, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the sequel of a two-film version of the acclaimed theatrical musical Wicked, which centers on the unlikely relationship between two very different sorceresses.
The show itself is a adaptation of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was dressed in a light pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of last year in the UK, and earned a dozen Academy Award nods, winning several for outstanding attire and artistic direction.
