Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any impact is uncertain and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - reported they have shot down missiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted locations associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with notable success and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.

It said debris fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
