The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Season on BBC
The beloved crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part season created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast in the coming months, according to the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together next year."
The previous season wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to become a offender.
Yet, his case might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, the teaser suggested.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh installment."
He added: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the news and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and became a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the new season will hit screens.
The conclusion of series six brought the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no plans for further series.
However, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
