The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
