The Showrunner Discloses He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.

The creative mastermind could not have predicted that Pluribus would emerge as a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the acclaimed sci-fi show coming to an end—and the next chapter already in development—the writers' room opened up about the fan response and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

On the Incredible Viewer Reception

It would be easy to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and online debates surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to avoid both.

“It feels like an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's by design. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by online forums.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Has Vince Gilligan See the Finale of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by fan response, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… sort of.

“There are some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” he states. “yet we stand ready to discard a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Then again, why not reference the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
