Toronto Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Showdown Against Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder contributed to the Houston Astros winning the World Series in 2017.

Canada's MLB team advanced to their initial championship series following 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Down 3-1, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh frame, guiding the sole Canadian team in the majors to a four games to three win in the series. Next up are the defending champions, holders of the defending champions, in the upcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, the city, Canada," Springer stated, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."

Springer has now hit 23 total playoff homers, placing him third in history after Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another player on planet Earth that I'd choose in that moment except for George Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the sole team never to appear in a World Series.

Wilson said "without a doubt that it's going to sting" following his team's loss at their home ballpark, but praised their work in the campaign.

"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we finished on the wrong side of this one," he added.

The Blue Jays secured the championship on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the first game on this Friday.
